The Belpiano-Malga di San Valentino Hiking Resort – Adventures on the High Alpine Ridge
Hiking in Val Venosta, South Tyrol – The Joy of the Mountains
The Belpiano-Malga di San Valentino region in Passo di Resia showcases some of Val Venosta’s most beautiful hiking trails, such as the stunning Belpiano mountain ridgeway to the Malga di San Valentino or the tour up to the Cima Pian del Lago (2,859m). The easy panoramic trails and more challenging routes criss-cross this magnificent mountain world. They lead into the glacial main Alpine ridge area, to the Rifugio Pio XI in Vallelunga on the border with Austria. Your ascent is made all the more convenient by the many cable cars in the area, which make hiking in Val Venosta an attractive summer activity for families and novices as well.
This hike in the Sesvenna Alps offers experienced hiking enthusiasts and families alike stunning views of the Ortler, as well as Lago di Resia and Lago di San Valentino alla Muta, and takes you into Vallelunga. The mountain ridgeway runs from the Belpiano mountain station to Malga di San Valentino along a well-marked trail.
The tour begins at the Belpiano valley station, from where you take the cable car up to the mountain station and the start of the route. From there, the path takes you over the slopes and, eventually, along trail number 14. Once you get above the tree line, the most beautiful of views will unfold in front of you. After approx. two hours, you’ll get to the Seven Wells, known locally as Sieben Brunnen, a collection of springs and, eventually, you’ll come to Malga di San Valentino, your destination, where you can have a well-deserved rest. The return journey involves taking the nearby cable car into the valley and then the bus to the car park at the Belpiano mountain station.
